Blindness as a Biblical Metaphor
Here we are looking to blindness not a as physical malady but as a constraint on understanding.
That which we are blind to are references to our lack of comprehension.
This may stem from a percieved falacy or contradiction.
When we find these passages it is important for us to look beyond what we believe we are seeing.
We know what meaning should be there and desire it to be very clear to us.
That is the great mystery of the Bible.
How do some things resonate with us while others cause us to question our faith?
My simple answer to this is to not let a lack of understanding divert our faith!
By understanding that you (or I) may not be ready for the answer just means that there are more doors in our faith to open.
This page is dedicated to those passages that do not sit right with me and how I work through them.
The first step is to be reading the Bible. The more you take in the more is revealed.
Do not pawn this responsibility off on others.
By abdicating our responsibility to have our own understanding we subject ourselves to the very people Jesus so often warns us about.
When was the last time you challenged an interpretation of Scripture?
The message did not sit well with you and your understanding but due to your insecurity you accept someone elses interpretation based on their conviction alone.
The following are examples I have found and the deep dives I do into understanding nuances and adjoining texts I have not considered.
The Death of Ananias
My contention is that DEATH is too severe a consequence for this action.
I accept that the LITERAL teaching is that to betray God results in Spritual Death.
However, the teachings of Jesus are that of MERCY.
Ananias was never given a chance to REPENT.
Seeing as how this matter was FINANCIAL with a direct benefit to heads of the Church this passage reeks of GREED.
My position is that this is a warning akin to Jesus warning the people of the Pharisees.
What are your opinions?
